The film follows Aman Dhillon (Tiger Shroff), a martial arts teacher who gains superpowers after a lightning bolt strikes a sacred tree while he tries to stop mercenary Raka from cutting it down. Raka is flung into barrels of toxic waste, which later makes him stronger and more dangerous. Aman's mother declares him a superhero, makes him a costume, and tells him the story of his father, Sardar Kartar Singh Dhillon, a Sikh who went to Shaolin to learn martial arts and was named 'Flying Jatt'. Aman takes up the legacy. After several battles, Raka kills Aman's brother Rohit, who had gone in Aman's place as Flying Jatt. An enraged Aman, now a Sikh Sardar, defeats Raka by taking him into space where there is no pollution to strengthen him, killing Raka by inserting his Kara into his chest.

In Their Own Story

Builder Mr. Rakesh Malhotra wants to build a bridge across a lake but cannot because of a sacred tree on land owned by Mrs. Dhillon. He brings in mercenary Raka to intimidate the family. When Raka attacks the tree with a chainsaw, Aman tries to stop him and is badly beaten. A lightning bolt hits the tree, flinging Raka away into barrels of toxic waste. The next morning, Aman finds a khanda imprinted on his back and discovers he has superpowers: increased agility and the ability to absorb information by touching objects. After escaping an ambush using super speed, his mother confirms his powers and names him Flying Jatt. He saves hostages from a terrorist attack at an airport, proposes to fellow teacher Kirti, and reveals his secret identity. Raka, now stronger from the pollutants, battles Aman multiple times. After a brutal fight leaves Aman gravely injured, his brother Rohit goes as Flying Jatt and is killed by Raka. Grief-stricken, Aman becomes a Sikh Sardar and faces Raka. Initially overpowered, Aman regains consciousness, takes Raka into space where there is no pollution, and kills him by inserting his Kara into his chest.

Firstpost said the film's 'comedy, occasional inventiveness and aura of innocence are what make it effective in its own way, despite the lack of depth'. Sarita Tanwar from Daily News and Analysis gave 2 out of 5 stars, saying 'You'll need superhero levels of patience to watch this'. Anupama Chopra from the Hindustan Times gave 1.5 stars out of 5, noting 'The first half of A Flying Jatt has moments of fun – I loved that despite being a superhero he has a fear of heights, so he flies very close to the ground. But post-interval, laughter takes a back seat.' HuffPost critic Suprateek Chatterjee asked 'Why does this even exist?' and called it 'a symbol of Bollywood's laziness and creative bankruptcy'. A Flying Jatt has been made into a graphic novel by Thought Bubbles Studio Planet, continuing the story where the film ends. A mobile video game tie-in was released during the film's release, developed by Hungama Gameshastra Pvt. Ltd.
